Financial interests
I am the founder, chief executive, and a shareholder of BellyMD, Inc., a Delaware corporation based in Philadelphia. BellyMD sells dietary supplements and develops software, including the MeNome app, for people with disorders of gut-brain interaction. When I write or speak about the gut-brain axis, thiamine, magnesium, or related supplementation, I have a financial interest in the subject. I hold this interest openly, and I ask readers to weigh it.
I am compensated by Wolters Kluwer for my role as Editor-in-Chief of Emergency Medicine News.
I receive compensation for clinical work in community emergency departments in Pennsylvania, Delaware, and New Jersey, and for speaking engagements.
Dr. Rick’s Picks
My weekly newsletter, Dr. Rick’s Picks, is free. Most issues recommend a product. When a recommendation is paid for by a sponsor, that issue says so plainly, in the issue itself, next to the pick. Anything not labeled as sponsored is my own editorial choice and is not paid placement. I only accept sponsorship for things I would recommend anyway, and a payment does not buy a favorable opinion. The newsletter also links to BellyMD products and to my own consultation service, and my financial interest in those is the same one described above.
